Well i think that this depends on what the person of authority was stealing and what kind of authority figure was it. like if it was a cop i kind would confront his hypocrizy. and this is a very subjective question thats to broad for interpretation however for the sake of aurgument if they stoled something that was not personal property like from a store i would not care not because i am scared or because they are a figure of a authority but if anyone whether they are an authority figure or not i would not really care or do anything. however i think the purpose of this question is for people to reacted in three ways one they will say i will stop them no matter if they are an authority figure second probably the most important concept is that they will not say anything for the sheer purpose that they are an authority figure or third which is my personal response is that i will not do anything cause i just simply would not care as much as this figure was stealing from a business and not an actual person then wateve
I like your herbert spencer rant about your American history and strangely i try to explain that in the above comment about stealing if we analyze the actual fabric of this question and the sociological aspect of this question the most appropriate and generic response that would be most widely accepted and that most people would agree on and the teacher will be yay you did analzyed this and got the results that in a sociological class the most appropriate answer and response to the question presented above would have been my second answer to that question which is that you would not do anything because of the power of the authority that person holds which goes back to the sociological concept of the power of authority. MY point in all this is that i am trying to sociologically analyze the sociological answer and response to this question and to just prove that even in a sociological class there are still things that over power others and create norms and sociologist are just a group of people and just like in your example in your american history class even in a sociological class people will follow the norm.
